Is Brother Ali one of the game's biggest cultural appropriators flying under the radar?

Everywhere...You never there.
Disclaimer: Homie is a well, well above average spitter... knowledgeable guy... and Shadows on the Sun is arguably a classic that is a personal favorite.

If you haven't listened to at least the Shadows album, then do yourself favor and do so...

However....

*Homie put Brother in his name
*Raps about the "ancestors"
*talks about the raising of the black fist
*references many historical black phrases, people, places and things
*uses intonations in his delivery that sound "stereotypically black"

...all while being a white albino.

:jbhmm:

Has he gotten a pass and/or does he continue to get a pass based on his views he's articulated on and off the mic? ...has he earned an honorary pass like teena marie, michael macdonald and them?

Just for fun....

...his producer Ant is a beast , too... should be getting more mainstream placements.

Speak on it Coli....

He's said he's white albino in his interviews. I think what you're referring to, the Black language in his raps has more to do with the fact that he converted after reading Malcolm X, and he's also had good relations with Farrahkhan. And he says he's married to a Black woman.

In his last interview on HeavyHitters, he was also pointing out that White supremacy actually kills white peoples' identity, since it tries to replace their own cultural identities with just "White"-ness. So people end up losing their respective traditions of their ancestors the same way African-Americans were done but forcibly.

I don't think he's a fake Black rapper at all, more of a conscious / activist rapper. And Black issues are relevant to his message. Its either talk about civil rights in the US, or talk about US foreign policy killing people overseas (which breeds enemies/terror; the inside jobs, war-profiteers, etc). That's the only conscious rap that's real, everybody gotta pick one.

I always wondered if he was a black or a white albino. But his lyrics always sounded white to me.
1 of my favorite rappers BTW of all time. By far the best white rapper. Better than Eminem.

y'all need to chill with everyone being a cultural appropriator, it loses its meaning if you just say anyone who does anything is a cultural appropriator

Didn't Brother Ali initially try and hide the fact he was white, and danced around the topic in early interviews

Later apologising for doing so?

That's kinda suspect to me
Yup! I used to shyt on him before I listened to his music for this exact reason. He used to be on some "what do you think, does it matter" :mjpls: shyt.

But he's talented and a good dude. Glad he learned better...
