But what foods help build muscle and what types of exercises target those areas for muscle growth.
All foods can help build muscle in reality. Protein is the primary building block.

Look up Bret Contreas the Glute Guy. His IG has a ton of content on this.

How do you gain weight in the butt and thighs without gaining weight in the tummy area?

You can't gain weight in only a specific area....just like you can't loose weight in a given area, how your body holds fat is genetic.... Those areas you mentioned tend to hold a lot of muscle though, so if you squat and dead-lift you should put on some muscle there and it will become more noticeable....Because those areas hold a lot of muscle you need progressive overload, light resistance won't work because they essentially support your entire body weight....

Nutrition wise you want to eat a bit more to gain muscle and facilitate recovery....but not for the purpose of gaining weight in your ass lol.

I repeat do not over eat..
