I play a 4 string and can play a 5 string, but I've never bought one. Some songs, like Eric B and Rakim's "paid in full" require that extra low note that a 4 string can't deliver though. It's not often. I had a friend that would tune his 4 string BEAD. He should have just bought a 5 string, but to this day, he never does4 string is easier to learn on but I needed the low b when I started out because of marching band and church
5 string gives you more range so I'd say go for it. Cons ain't that bad. You pay like a hundred dollars more and may struggle if you have smaller hands. But it's still possible
Better to have a string you don't play than not have one and need it to me
Also, don't put the wrong strings in the wrong places
The tension will mess up your guitar. Very likely to warp it
