Short answer: Yes

I feel bad for people falling for the 4K hype when 1440p is the true sweet spot, at least for monitors.

4k is not worth the difference that gaming at a higher refresh rate will give you. 1440p/144hz is the best part about PC gaming, if your card can handle it. A smoother framerate actually helps you appreciate the visuals more. I'd be careful about doing it though. For people like myself, a lower framerate begins to be distracting, especially in FPS. It's a gift & a curse :francis:

What size monitor do you have?

*Gaming on a 34" 3440x1440p monitor for reference.

I play on a 1440p monitor and I honestly can’t see any difference than when I have my pc hooked to my 4K tv.

The power it takes to make it to 4K is much better used elsewhere.

Higher frame rates won’t give you better image quality, but they will make the game feel smoother and more responsive.

are there any monitors with high refresh rates with HDR, main reason I started with 4k was HDR

None that I could recommend right now. From what I understand, monitors are still catching up when it comes to HDR. Most of them are not true HDR (nits below 500).

even with high nits most monitors are limited HDR or software, I ain't trying to spend 2,000 on a monitor right now for true HDR I will wait for the price to come down, i mean most 4k tvs don't have real HDR either

I would look into this one then. Seems to be getting pretty good reviews. Has HDR, wide-color gamut + g-sync compatible. The WCG would probably make the most notable difference.

EDIT: Site not posting Amazon links properly :francis:

I'm thinking I might need to upgrade to a 3080ti if just get a native 2k monitor with HDR
