This is the "Ultimate" movie version of Marvel. We have no idea who The Mandarin is supposed to be, his race, background, or anything. The sole reason people are saying "why isn't he Asian?" is because this is the OG version of the character:

The problem with that logic is, this is the OG version of Nick Fury:

OG version of Heimdall:

So :wtf: at people complaining about racial inconsistencies between the comics and movies. What's next, people complain that Whiplash from "Ironman 2" wasn't played by a Russian? :snoop:

The difference though is that there is not a shortage of roles for white dudes in Hollywood so changing a couple characters from white to black is no biggie. Asians on the other hand are barely represented by Hollywood so taking an Asian character and making him whatever the hell Mandarin is supposed to be becomes noteworthy just by the dearth of Asian representation in Hollywood movies.

You just can't win.

If an Asian was cast to play Mandarin we'd hear from someone like Angry Asian Man blogger talking about how it's racist. He's not portrayed by an Asian you have these pseudo-civil rights nikkas speaking for Asians talking about it's fukked up they didn't choose an Asian looking guy.

If the acting and plot is great, do we really need to give a fukk?

Thank you. Jesus Christ. People are acting like they cast Tobie McGuire to play Black Panther or something.

The modernized the plot and made 10 rings a more Arab/Persian thing. It actually makes sense to cast someone like Sir Ben Kingsley.
