If there is another revolution in Iran, there is no doubt in my mind the religious police will be the first to be lined up. Going around harassing women over the hijab has to be one of the weakest moves ever. Someone somewhere in Iran cannot wait to get even.

The president does appoint the interior minister, who has a lot of sway when it comes to strictness of enforcement. The current interior minister has issued multiple orders demanding harsh crackdowns and Pezeshkian's minister can reverse those in the near term.

However, there's still consideration for the zealots, so I suspect the best that could be done is taking away their power to detain people--which is allegedly what MbS did with KSA's own guidance patrol. I'm skeptical they'll be able to do that much despite having popular support on the matter.
