Interview With Practical Effects Studio Amalgamated Dynamics

Amalgamated Dynamics is one of the best known, longest running practical effects studios in the world. They've done the FX in a ton of movies, like "Tremors", "Mortal Kombat", "Demolition Man", "Mars Attacks!", "Starship Troopers", the Raimi "Spiderman" trilogy, "X-Men: First Class"....too many to mention really.

I remember a few conversations on here arguing for/against CGI/practical effects....most recently about Thanos in the MCU, and should he be CGI or practical....and this 8 minute video nicely explains the pros/cons of both:

Trying to find some of it now. I think I remember most of them being in interviews. Seems like some of those videos "vanished" though.

It's briefly touched on in the video I posted, but Amalgamated was hired to do practical effects for "The Thing" remake, with the understanding that it would be touched up with CGI.

Instead they didn't use hardly anything Amalgamated did, and went full CGI....which looked mostly shytty.
