So the US Postal Service got screwed by free e-mail back in the 90s.
In the past decade, pirated and free media have been providing what customers used to pay for.
Penthouse magazine publisher has filed for bankruptcy. I would put the blame on free file media sharing sites. The other major magazines are probably on the chopping block too, i.e. Playboy and Hustler.

that's just too bad for them because porn played a major part in the internet becoming mainstream. they should've stayed on top of it or bought up sites like youporn and porntube and ate off advertising.

? So getting something for free that you used to have to pay for is backfiring?

Fuk i hope the shyt backfires some more.
I meant getting global exposure and availability of your product increased with the Internet, but pirating made the product free and they didn't rake in the profits from pirated media. Even then, Penthouse wasn't that great.

Sorry about the job thing.

Media is changing and this is a good thing. I work in Media.

Your work deals in photography...a part of media that has never really been negatively affected by the change in technology and the whole "share everything" ideology.

Penthouse didn't shift their business model quick enough. Plus, their product was so-so compared to what was available.

A lot of video production companies have gone out of business. Not enough to make waves or news. The next wave will entail all the Internet video production companies. They need to hire some lawyers and start hammering the file-sharing sites. Why?
When they fold, there's not going to be money for new media because people want it for free and no one is going to have the money to buy equipment, cameras, video editing equipment, and pay for actors, and host servers and pay for website designers. It's all going to backfire... and there is going to be a dearth of new media.

:russ:

you gotta be kidding. back in the day, photographers used to be able to sell the right pictures to publications for bank, often enough to make a living if they were good enough. Now picture taking is a dime a dozen.... Totally shrunken market.
