he was damn near 7'3 playing against 6'8 centers though

:flabbynsick:

In this game he's playing against a Kevin Love sized center (Jerry Lucas, who used to play Power Forward before the Knicks made him a center) - I've looked up Lucas's measurements from back then and he is identical in both height (w/o shoes) and playing weight during this season to Kevin Love's draft data. So in part it's true, this particular Finals is not against a particularly impressive sized center (because Willis Reed was injured all season) but u do know how Wilt got to this finals - Do u know what kind of center talent Wilt played against on a regular basis?
*hint* - check 3:55

Centers heights weren't exaggerated back then like they are now.

proof

Dwight Howard 6'11" :pachaha:

Bill Russell 6'9" :ehh:

Stand them next to each other and they're the same height.

nowadays the bigmen are the same height as they were back then. you could've made the undersized argument back in the 90s when you had Mutumbo and Ewing ect playing. but i would say that the league on average is the same height now as they were back then. don't beleive espn or some wiki page look at video or pictures. watch the hall of fame ceremony. most of these old school players are the same height as their modern counterparts.

This is true, Bill Russell for example (according to sports Illustrated 1955) measured no less than 6-9 and 5/8ths w/o shoes and had a 7-4 wingspan.

Dwight Howard on the other hand, measures precisely 6-9 w/o shoes and has a 7-4.5 wingspan.

Yet Big Bill only wanted to list 6-9, and "little" Dwight decided to list 6-11. Dwight isn't the only one who inflates his list info these days, almost every player does now. And back in Bill/Wilt's day they usually stayed modest, sometimes even selling themselves short (as in Bill's case).

Like MJ wasnt playing vs mostly 6'4 and 6'3 dudes. or the 6'5+ guys were usually a lot less athletic then he was.

remember pippen was on his team. so there was no wing player that was as athletic as mj at his height or taller that could hang with him during his prime.

thats why kobe is the GOAT. he's killing dude that are his height, longer, taller with just as much athletic ability or moreso.

Dip is 4 months from his 36th birthday in that game with busted up hands leaping and moving around more than I see 29 year old centers in the L today, imposing his will on both ends of the floor and he doesn't even take a break - he never sat on that bench til the last 2 minutes of the game when the Lakers had amassed a huge lead - unbelievable physical specimen

Even as an old man on his last legs he had that mystique about him like he was invincible, like he could just do anything he wanted
