Early RoH/PWG really set the template and helped cultivate the stars that would be moving the business forward for the next 15/20 years.

shyt is astounding when you think about it

Vince at one point said he didn't want to recruit anyone from the indies anymore, which was insane. WWE would be a shell of itself in the post-territory days if not for having a strong indie wrestling industry for them to recruit like 80% of their roster from. Or to be there to rehab promising talents they booked for shyt like what happened with Cody Rhodes, Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre, and Bryan Danielson to name a few examples. People forget that WWE fumbled the bag with Danielson from 2000-01 in developmental and then he proceeded to become an indie legend just about overnight.

I've been seeing pictures of young KO and Sami since last night

honestly, its amazing how those two of all people, especially KO became Vince's trusted guys to use in certain situations.

And damn man Steen had 109 career PWG matches and Generico 125. Someone would have to be wrestling for them for 20+ years to get that many PWG matches with as infrequently as they run shows these days. Even before the pandemic hit they had started running considerably fewer shows. Brody King and Malakai Black have been the PWG tag champs for over 500 days and only made two defenses.

They could have picked up the mantle from ROH as the leading indie if they had ever joined the 21st century and started streaming and doing PPVs instead of sticking with being a DVD company so they could make more money to run more shows. Who the fukk even buys PWG DVDs anymore other than Dave Meltzer?
