Once again, the government has banned a documentary solely because it talks about people committing hate crimes on Muslims.

lol at the biggest movie in India last month being explicitly anti-Muslim, but a documentary talking about hate crimes against Muslims is "too divisive for India."

So it turns out that PM Modi has never taken a question from the press since he came into office 9 years ago. Never. If I knew that I'd forgotten it, I knew their mistreatment of the media was bad but I didn't know it was that bad.

Apparently, the US asked him to take two questions at the official state dinner, and he balked and tried to refuse forever. Finally they compromised and agreed he would take just one, and even that was a fukking embarrassment.

Imagine having months to prepare for what you KNOW the question is going to be, the primary question of your entire presidency, and your only answer is that rambling Trump-like bullshyt repeating "democracy" over and over while not answering the question.

I have thought of Modi as a more controlled Trump, but honestly he would get torn the fukk apart if he was an American leader. Their entire agenda is protected by their total control of the narrative via media and social media. If he actually had to defend his own record, he'd be hopeless.

India's biggest state (whose CM many people believe will be India's next Prime Minister) just removed their first Prime Minister out of a crucial great leaders list and replaced him with.....the guy who conspired to kill Gandhi.

Defending the decision to exclude Nehru, secondary education minister (independent charge) Gulab Devi said, “Nehru had not made the supreme sacrifice for the country.“ Hence, Nehru was excluded from the list of 50 biographies of great men, she said. On inclusion of Savarkar, minister said, “If we don’t teach students about our great leaders like Savarkar and Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay, what do we teach them? Are we supposed to tell our kids about terrorists instead of making them aware of the life and times of great personalities of India?”

Nehru:

* Major leader of India's independence movement
* First Prime Minister of India
* Served as Prime Minister for 17 years
* Heavily responsible for India starting out as a pluralistic democracy
* Pushed socialism and care for all factions of society

Savarkar

* Founder of Hindu Nationalism, despite being an atheist
* Supported fascism in Germany and Italy
* Suggested that Hitler's solution for Jews could be replicated in India with Muslims
* Boycotted the independence movement
* Was a co-conspirator in Gandhi's assassination
* Never held any meaningful post

A state with a population of 250 million is now going to teach kids that Savarkar is an Indian hero and Nehru is irrelevant.

This is basically the equivalent of Texas eliminating Abraham Lincoln from the textbooks to study Jefferson Davis instead. That's the era Indian government is aiming for right now.
