Fact. PSK considered the first gangster rap song. Schooly D was from Philly and had to go there for Phily to stand out. Soon after Ice T mimicked that Schooly D shyt and made noise with 6 In The Morning and became one of the first popular rappers from Cali. World Class Wrecking Crew tried being Whodini and flopped, changed their names to NWA, used profanity in their music and became Cali legends. Too Short gains popularity for using profanity in his music. And all 3 of these Cali reps were popular before Tone Loc, MC Hammer and Young MC had mainstream success. Geto Boys when they first came out were constantly being compared to NWA due to their profanity laced lyrics and because of that they put Texas on the map. 2 Live Crew...First popular reps from Miami....Their whole gimmick was using over the top profanity. Vanilla Ice would come years later repping Miami.
This is hip hop history....All other cities had to use profanity as a gimmick in order to stand out from NYCs dominance in 80's hip hop.
