In retrospect as a younger breh Bill Clinton was a monster. Old heads how was he viewed in Black America during his term?

I don't think people realize just how terrible Bill Clinton was. Truly a monster. Democrats should stay far, far away from him. When I tried to write an article on his presidency I found so much that it turned into a whole book:

I don’t think History will be kind to Clinton’s Presidency. The 1994 crime bill did a lot damage, and the 1996 telecommunications act doesn’t seem that well liked.

From what old heads in barbershops have told me it changed radio overnight. You used to be able to listen Farrakhan speeches and independent acts on radio late at night, but Clinton’s telecommunications act ended that.

There’s also the shyt Clinton did in Rwanda, then later Haiti

His triangulation tactic of out Republicaning Republicans worked at winning elections initially and was new so some were not keen to the effects. He did end the deficit which at the time was deemed impossible. So he in real time seemed like a good president. But yeah, the two things you mentioned and curtailing welfare which was also bad were some acts in hindsight really hurt Black people/the country.

He was popular at the time, and most black politicians were supporting the crime bill. Hindsight is 20/20 :yeshrug:
True just from looking at old news broadcasts and word of mouth from old heads. The baby boomer generation hated on Hip-Hop and saw it as embarrassing. Baby boomer Black Americans hated that the youth looked up to NWA, 2Pac, Ice Cube, etc.

An older breh told me he got into an argument with his mom when she caught him listening to The Chronic. His mom didn’t like Dre after he allegedly beat the shyt out of Dee Barnes

He turned multiple generations of rural and blue collar voters Republican after signing that NAFTA trade deal. That's his legacy and
Democrats will never recover from it.

How Bill Clinton’s NAFTA law in 1994 could sink Kamala Harris in 2024

I was a little kid back then, but I remember Black people LOVING Bill Clinton's presidency. :usure: There's a reason he beat the brakes off of Dole in 1996. Clinton had one of the greatest economies in US history and many Black people benefited off of that when it came to jobs and home equity.

People loved clinton. No one simped for all the people he locked up until after 911. They only like the mass incarceration candidate when he gives out hugs

Younger generations don’t appreciate how bad crime really was in the early 90s. The stuff y’all are sensationalized as you calmly browse your social media was much closer to us back then cuz it was happening in greater volume.

Yup. I was a kid back then but my parents told me the murder rate was so insane in the late 80s/early 90s, everyone was begging for a solution no matter how severe. Can’t be mad at him for it.

We’re in much safer times now, despite what social media would have us believe.
