and the fact that countries that were considered developing(like China) seem to be getting chances at hosting global events(South Africa hosted the world cup)

When do you think that an African country will finally get the chance to host the olympics? the event has never been in Africa

When do you think that an African country will get a chance to host the games? I think Botswana has a very good chance of getting it if they are ready to put a bid in. Its a beautiful country with an economy that is growing and a stable government

With the exception of South Africa in 2004, I don't think any African nation has put a bid in. They need to apply first to get a chance. That part is on them...

I actually hope it doesn't happen. Corporations and foreign interests have been trying to rape Africa for years. The Olympics would open up the gates:manny:

I know this is off topic but the Olympics in Brazil will be unbelievable. Rather we agree or disagree, certain African countries are developing great compared to previous decades. The infrastructures for some of those countries will have to be fully developed in order for us to see it. Such as transportation etc....

Outside South Africa, no subsaharan african country is even close (they're at least a couple decades away).
The olympics are a gigantic money-loser anyway. The last ones to turn in a profit were Los Angeles '84 and Atlanta '96 (thanks to Coca-Cola money)... Just look how "wonderful" it's been for Greece and other countries using public money.

Besides, african countries have much bigger problems to worry about.
