Now that a WWE Hall of Famer is preparing to take the White House, a fellow honoree wants to take over Houston.
Booker T., a wrestling legend and Houston native, said Saturday night that he's in to challenge incumbent Mayor Sylvester Turner in the 2020 eleciton.
“You heard it, 2020 I’m preparing,” Booker said during his radio show. “I’m preparing myself to run for mayor of the city.”
Booker T. even took to Twitter to push the 2020 run.
Turner took office in January. It appears that Booker T. (real name Booker T. Huffman) was inspired by the recent underdog success story of President-Elect Donald Trump. "When I look at what Trump was able to do... to really bring everybody together that's what I want to do for my city. I guess you could say I want to make Houston great again."
But, the idea of breaking into politics prompted WWE superstar Rhyno (Terrance Gerin) to offer up that Booker T. would be a fantastic mayor.
"You are over qualified for the job,"said Gerin, who made an unsuccessful bid for the Michigan House of Representatives. "Wrestling not only prepares you for life but it prepares you for positions like that because you feel the emotion from the people you know what they want, you've built yourself from where you were to where you're at now."
And, he wouldn't be the first wrestler to take on a higher office. Jesse "The Body" Ventura served as Minnesota's governor from 1999-2003.
Along with being in the Hall of Fame, President-elect Donald Trump has a long association with the WWE, even appearing to body slam and shave the head of the company's chief, Vince McMahon and appointing his wife, Linda, as head of the Small Business Administration.
The question is now: How real is this political foray? If it is as real as the wrestling in WWE, then Houston is in for an entertaining time.
Trying to get in Vince's good graces, so he doesn't get thrown in the bushes like Lawler
Already got that X-Pac co-sign
