I'm pretty surprised very few of you have drawn parallels between Ryback and Sid...

but the obivous comparisons to goldberg overshadow the even more direct similarities he has to Sid Vicious

• "SID rules the world" = "Ryback Rules"
• rocking the singlet and tape = identical to original sid gear
• beating up mad jobbers en route to the main event = sid on wcw saturday night
• Ryback using the powerbomb now
• talking into the camera while he's pinning opponent
• Sid never got the WCW title when he was hot (2000 wcw is NON CANON) for similar reasons to Ryback; they didn't want to beat Sting or others and there were other more established heels like vader and flair...so he was in that odd "main event but not really" mode...

I like sid a lot, one of my favorite bad guys ever. Ryback, well, i HATE him LESS as a bad guy but come on he's still Mortis status to me.

The "Ryback Rules" thing actually did make me think of Sid, but the other things hadn't occurred to me.

I'm sure that's because I refuse to associate Ryback with any wrestler I actually like. I was a huge Sid fan too. I thought his strengths FAR surpassed his shortcomings.

To think of those two as similar hurts my brain. I just ... can't do it.

Sid brought out a stretcher and he, at least in his pre-Nitro career, was NEVER corny. He was a true monster heel for a "new" generation.

There is nothing about Ryback that says that. In fact, when he opens his mouth, all he does is explain.

Promo's aren't about explaining, they should be proof of your greatness and proof that you're about to do something important.
