I haven't been paying too much attention to his career to make a proper statement about this, but I do get the feeling that people are trying way too hard to sell him as the next big thing because they so desperately want a follow-up to the generation of strong black leads of Denzel, Will, Sam & Morgan.

I've only seen him in 3 things....The Wire, Friday Night Lights, and Fruitvale Station.

I was impressed by him in all 3.

OP name some other stuff he's been in that wasn't stellar?

Agreed. He's not there yet in terms of ability and roles.

all three of them were "blah".....He was in a sci-fi joint called "chronicle".....and he just didnt seem genuine to me in the film

Only seen him in Chronicle, he was alright, but Dahan was the star of that film:manny:.

I agree with this.

Let that dude :cook:. I think he was good in The Wire, Chronicle, and Fruitvale Station. Minus all the breh's lol. How many black actors do we see on a regular basis. Not much. We can't even get comfortable seeing a regular black actor cause they only let one in at a time.

Well it doesn't hurt that he's been in 2 things critics and White people loved - The Wire and Friday Night Lights.

Like anything in the world, perception and positive bias works for you.

I'm sure he's a good actor, but he's also in a rare position where people want to like him.

Can't hate on him for that.

I feel you. He's been putting in work, but it's like his name has been every where.

I've noticed for a black man to blow in hollywood, white women need to find them attractive or they have to have a cool factor (sam jackson, morgan freeman). I think white people just like him.

For black women, white men need to find them attractive

Only seen him in Chronicle and he was good, I was genuinely mad when his character died in that movie.

I already knew he was going to be the sacrificial lamb before watching the movie. Three friends, two related cacs, one black, tragedy strikes you know who's dying. :dead:

He was my favorite character and it was a good film.

The best way to tell how good an actor is, is how they play in an obviously bad movie.

He was really good in That Awkward Moment (along with Imogen Poots, although they were not live interests) and he was like the only serious actor in Red Tails.
