I live my life comfortably. If I see a pattern I will offer to help to break that pattern so that they don't keep ending up in the same situation. If they refuse the help but keep coming around needing help the faucet gets turned off forever because it then becomes clear that are trying to turn you into regular income instead of an emergency resource. I learned about my people early in life and it was a disheartening lesson to have to learn. If I ever strike it rich rich the only thing I'm doing for my people is clearing debt. That goes for everybody.
