Let's say you a smart motherfukkka as a trainer and you had the chance to train anybody, past or present, who would it be?

And what changes to there game would you tweak to make them better?

Im a die hard zab fan, so he would be my first choice. I always felt zab never used his jab like he should have, he used it more in just flicking it out there to land a big left. Zab never put any power behind his jab. Another thing, i would have worked with having zab mix up his arsenal, right hooks, throw more combinations and lead left hand straights.

iran barkley would be my next choice. i like iran for the intangibles he had but one thing that irritated me about him was that his style could be sloppy at times. he actually had a decent jab when he used it. for a guy his size i would had him use his reach alot more and on his defense.

Zab Judah because, outside of him being one of my favorite athletes ever, I always felt he probably underachieved more than any top level boxer in my lifetime. He had all of the tools to be one of the GOATs if not the best of his generation, he just didn't put it all together. Maybe if he had the best trainer of all-time (which I would be in this scenario) instead of his pops all of those years he could have.

Great topic and I agree with Zab and the use of his jab. That was always his most under used punch in his arsenal.

I'd prolly choose Jermain Taylor. Always liked that flawed nikka as a fighter. He had all the basics things for a good foundation as a fighter. He had speed, power, technique (when applied properly), heart, athleticism, and a bit of dog in him.

His biggest flaw to me was that he always fought nervous and burned too much energy being so high strung. I would have him focus on being relaxed more and boxing comfortably using his ring IQ instead of making everything turn into a physical battle. Even though we all shytted on his stamina, it was still better than guys like Pascal and Canelo who only seem to be able to fight hard for 5 or 6 rounds. At least Taylor could give you 8 solid rounds. I'd also get him to stop telegraphing his right hand and get him to throw it in different ways. I'd also tighten his defense up a bit.

Zab's problems are all mental. His technique is almost flawless. I don't see how anybody in this thread could help him at all.

Id love to take over training a 18 year old Mike Tyson. Id have him in the middle of the fukking wilderness , no distractions (meaning no Robing Givens and damn sure no Don King) just focused on destroying nikkas. This man would eat, drink, sleep, and shyt boxing.

1st Fighter that came to mind was Jermaine Taylor. Dude had all of the physical tools to become a great champion, but could never get out of his own way and head.

i disagree with that and always felt that zab biggest problem was that he never had a backup plan due to his trainer. if zab couldn't land a straight left hand or hurt you, what could he do? thats when shyt hit the fan for him.

he could box the shyt out of you. he can do it all for 3 rounds or until he breaks mentally.

Not a huge fan or anything but damn that boy had all the physical tools and power in both hands. Teach that ninja some defense and footwork, how to use his hand and foot speed together not one or another. Throw that struggle shoulder roll out the window. Make him spar throwing only punches to the body!
then it'd be Chad Dawson and the Klitschko's

he only has one counterpunch that short left uppercut and he loads up too much on the straight left and he has a chicken wing jab. that lack of countering causes him be overly passive when fighters start to use pressure which takes a fighter all of four rounds give or take to understand he can let his hands go as much as he wants against zab and not have to fear being countered. when a fighter pressures a southpaw like manny pacquiao or sergio martinez they get countered for it and stole with little straight left hands which zab doesnt have because he is always looking for a home run with the straight left in the rare event he will try to throw one at all. the jab that he throws is never thrown with intent meaning that fighters never have to respect it which makes zab get pressured more than he needs to be. but mostly if zab just added the quick little straight left like pacquiao or sergio martinez he would be a completely different fighter.
