The American Cancer Society recommends that men consider prostate cancer screening at age 50 if they have an average risk of prostate cancer and expect to live at least 10 more years. Men at high risk of prostate cancer, including African American men, should consider screening at age 45. This includes men with a first-degree relative (father or brother) diagnosed with prostate cancer at an early age (younger than age 65).
