If you are a moviemaker, is it more beneficial to go through Netflix or the traditional route?

Got to thinking about Bright and some of these other netflix orignals that were received well by audiences. If you are going to make a movie, is it better nowadays to release it on something like netflix or through movie theaters? Which will bring in more money? From what I understand, the netflix method just has netflix writing you a check and that's how you get paid, upfront? The movie theater method is getting paid off what it makes after weeks and months, i would guess. So, which is better? Discuss.

Whichever studio is goingbto pay you the most would be my guess :yeshrug:

I mean depending you may make residuals off dvd sales so i assume netflix pays based on amount its streamed

From what I know, from friends in the industry, esp if it's not some bullsit, Netflix will be easier to get a creative project greenlit, but less money and less recognition, though that is changing rapidly. Netflix has "stupid money" and spends it easily, whereas Hollywood is tighter for anything not a 100% box office hit.

Both to me have there pro and cons
Netflix you probably would have more freedom and reach a wider audience but your also competing with everything else on Netflix and who knows if the people watching are actually paying attention or passively paying attention

Movie theater probably less creative control but at most you would only be competing with what's at that theatre and it just seems like being at a theatre is a more immersive experience all around
