What type of effect would it have on the music industry?

what artists would benefit the most?

what artists would be negatively effected the most?

I'm torn because other genres don't just give away whole albums worth of free product and they seem to do fine, thats what video blogs, social media or even an 4 song EP would serve for, it also would eliminate rappers half assing it on some "this is a JUST a mixtape freestyle" type of mindset

The abundance of free mixtape is a double edge sword for these guys. They put their best work on the free mixtape, but their worst work on the retail album. It doesn't seem to make sense. They gain and loose a fanbase in one swoop.

You'd think they put their fillers on the free mixtape and save their best stuff for the official album.

Curren$y comes to mind as I write this.

I believe in Kendrick. And, feel he will deliver something even better than Section. 80.

exactly, its gotten to the point where nikkas feel rap is so devauled that they have to just give away music....

on one hand it can be a catalyst that allows nikkas to build a fanbase and eat (tour) off their talents without being dependent on anyone else (I.E. a label) on the other hand it basically devalues your music and that of others around u cause now everyone is expecting free shyt so they aint really trying to pay for anything especially a initial release with a price tag

Yep. That's my issue is cats deliberately making filler music. It's going to happen because not every song you make can be cohesive to a certain project, so hang on to those songs they may come in handy later cats stay devaluing their brand by training their fanbase to not expect pay for actual music.

Without the mixtapes they wouldn't have a fanbase
