Boxing news: Anthony Joshua makes shock RETIREMENT claim ahead of Andy Ruiz Jr bout

Boxing news: Anthony Joshua makes shock RETIREMENT claim ahead of Andy Ruiz Jr bout

The Briton takes on Andy Ruiz Jr tonight in his American debut, a fight he is heavily expected to win.

Joshua is defending his WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO world heavyweight titles, two of which he won against Klitscho in their thrilling fight at Wembley Stadium.

But ‘AJ’ has told head coach Rob McCracken that he would retire if he ever had to deal with a fight like that again, in a interview to Ireland sports outlet Joe.

Joshua endured his toughest night in the ring against Klitschko, and was knocked to the canvas for the first time in his career.

Joshua survived the round before knocking out Klitschko in the 11th round.

However, he explained to former two-weight world champion Carl Frampton that he swore he would never go through a gruelling fight like that again.

“It was a slugfest, it wasn’t even a technical fight where he caught me,” Joshua said. “It was just a slugfest.

It was one of those where I had to go down to get back up.

I learned I was too top-heavy as a heavyweight. I was doing my weights and I couldn’t carry my body properly.

”I also learned how to pace myself.

“Most importantly I said to my coach ‘if I have another one of these fights, I’m done with boxing’.

“I said ‘I should be good enough so I don’t have to go through hell and back just to win a fight. It should be good competition but I shouldn’t have to go through all that to win.”

something never sat right with me about AJ

people truly at the top of what they do don't act like that, good for Andy Ruiz. He wanted it more

It's wilders division now though :merchant:

Why do you think he hired a sports psychologist? :francis:

Don’t forget about, Fury, Ortiz, and Ruiz. Then you have Usyk who is a dangerous fighter. Wilder gotta go through the gauntlet again. :wow:

Breh I was watching the Pistons Bad Boys special today and man you're NEVER gonna see that type of heart into today's sports. These nikkahs were straight gladiators. Issaiah and Lambieer stuck with the team year after year until they beat Boston and the Lakers and won the titles. They stuck together with Rodman when he called out CAC media for overhyping Larry Bird and they won together.

These bytch ass nikkahs don't have that type of heart today. Instead of working with their squad to build a team to beat their rivals. They want to cry and leave(Kyree) or just jump on a winning team(Durant).

Jadakiss was right...

The game got cheaper, rappers is more commercially successful now
But the heart's a lot weaker

Yeah athletes of today are faster stronger due to tech and knowledge but when it comes to mental strength people of the past are built different. Give em the benefot pf today's knowledge etc and you'll see.

How was anyone expecting him to actually fight Deontay with that attitude?

After watching what Wilder did in and after the 7th round vs. Ortiz, there's no way Joshua would be able to fight against someone like that anyway.
