He been saying for years he doesn't understand hip hop.

That part is understandable. Michael Jordan is the same way and hip hop is the reason his shoes still sell millions today. Michaael Jordan did an interview with Bobitto in the 90s in Vibe magazine going through music and Jordan had never heard of Rakim. This was the early 90s.
