What software would I need?
I want to start a youtube film analysis channel--film editing software?

Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro
I prefer Premiere because I have the Adobe Suite. With that, you can use Photoshop, After Effects and a whole bunch of other software that are compatible with one another.
If you're going to creating vids, I'm sure you'll need graphic elements (titles, lower thirds, etc.) to create so that's why I recommend the suite.
You can do a lot of that in the editing program but sometimes you'll need a program like Photoshop or AE to do gfx.
Or maybe you can hire somebody from sites like Fiverr to do it for you.
A lot of creators love FCP but I stopped messing with it after 7.
