Everybody in those matches came out of them looking good, w/ the exception of Angle- granted, he got his ass kicked in a match that coulda been on Smackdown. But all in all, it wasn't a bad look for any one of them... Jericho, Benoit, and Angle hadn't been there a full year yet, and they were being billed in "main events" with their top stars. In those situations, wins and losses mean less than just being there in the first place. It was likely meant to be their first chances to see how they'd perform in those types of matches. Only Benoit had experience being in main events, and it was still fresh because he wasn't an established main eventer yet.

But that said, yes the IWC would've had a fit about Benoit and Jericho losing... and they probably did. :lolbron:

Top of the card:

5 Val Venis (c) (with Trish Stratus) defeated Rikishi[1][2] Steel Cage match for the WWF Intercontinental Championship 14:10
6 The Undertaker defeated Kurt Angle[1][2] Singles match 07:34
7 Triple H (with Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley) defeated Chris Jericho[1][2] Last Man Standing match 23:11
8 The Rock (c) defeated Chris Benoit (with Shane McMahon) Singles match for the WWF Championship 22:09

breh, the audience wasn't checking for any of the people who got L's that night over the winners

The B PPVs in 2000 were actually really good....backlash 2000 has been talkd about ad naseum here but thats maybe the first or 2nd best non-big-four PPV ever.

We would have took to the computers and got the putin', but Angle, Jericho and Benoit all became well off in their careers. Now in this current era its almost like once you job, you always job. Back then if you had a good showing there was still a glimmer of hope

This is kind of out of context. Sure those guys lost but none of them looked worst for wear coming out those loses. Benoit and Jericho looked great in those matches, i could've lived without Angle losing to Taker in 7 minutes tho.

Plus in 2000, Triple H was getting D-Bry level Props from the IWC. This was a hot B- PPV for that era.

It wasnt about ages it was about who was new to the audience and new blood in wwe. Dont be stupid. Angle, benoit, and y2j were new blood in the wwe and they all took Ls there.

Now, obviously crispin shouldntve gone over rock but jericho and angle SHOULD have gone over....

This thread is speaking anecdotedly but if that shyt happened now we'd be pissed as fukk

:what:that was one benoits biggest match in his carear at that point and Rock put him over...he may have lost but rock sold that feud and they had one of the most underated classics of the attitude era

it was almost a year later before benoit got a main event fued again

fukkin loved that shyt :heh: austin was DESTROYING EVERYONE just to do it then. The entire roster would go from :birdman:  to :whoa: :sadcam: as SOON as that glass shattered

Don't get it twisted, the IWC hated that shyt. IWC disdain towards Austin/Rock were approaching Cena levels during the late attitude era but people conveniently "misremember" all of that now. :mjpls:

Of course the IWC hopped on dikk quick for the Austin heel turn and eventually Rock left just as both smarks AND marks were turning on him so they both missed out on that Cena heat. :whew:

It's true. A lot of people on the boards I frequented were tired of teh brawling main events and wanted more technical guys like Triple H to get pushed in 98/99/2000 believe it or not. @Henzo has posted screengrabs and board readers from around that time

Not exactly sure about Austin (Remember, he was gone until what, October of 2000), but I distinctly remember people really getting sick of Rocky before he turned Hollywood in 2003. Maybe not around this time period (I wasn't around then), but the longer things went on, the more people got right sick of Rocky's schtick.

Not sure it ever approached Cena levels of hate though. Cena was DETESTED at one point, and I'm not sure Rocky hate ever got to those levels.

There were definitely workrate whores clamoring for Dean Malenko to main event, but the hate was never close to approaching Cena levels.
