The year 3030
This was interesting indeed.

It has some of that surrealism that love lies bleeding had.

It also reminded me of cable guy at times

this shyt was ass. Should've went and saw IF :snoop:

had to wiki the movie details after. packed theatre and when the credits rolled we all just started openly discussing wtf happened in the pitch dark like a Q&A. soundtrack is decent. and visually it's cool. everything else was buns. the movie has way too many metaphors for the talent and pacing involved.

this is a Benjamin button level story being told by tv show actors with a shoestring plot. justice smith aint carrying nothing either, he's had to really step up here. it's not really a coming of age love story like the trailer suggests. even knowing the details of the plot and what it has to say about identity etc, there's not enough movie here. shyts just going from plot point to point with no real connection or heart. and wtf did breh go from being hella black to clearly mixed after the time jump.. smh I just know somebody white directed this.

I'd say pass on this unless you're struggling with your identity and need a random ass movie to tide you over. But if you do see it's best to read at least a small synopsis or review because it's one of those "you won't get it until the end" type movies.

if "i don't think i am the target audience" was a movie :beli:
This flick is definitely VERY "super woke white liberal that lives in Silverlake, San Fran or Seattle and worships David Lynch". The Double Lunch nightclub scene is straight out of Twin Peaks: the Return.

that said, I enjoyed it tho it definitely isn't perfect. Great visuals but some clunky dialogue. It is heavy on the trans allegory but some straight brehs could/should definitely relate to the messaage of being your authentic self (think brehs that c00n shuffle for whites due to lack of knowledge of self or act hood to fit in when they really aren't built like that). It was weird af tho when "two years later" we go from the black child actor to a grown ass light skinned breh, like fam you couldn't find a light complexion child actor to play young Owen? :francis:

I think the concept of marginalized people connecting via media (Pink Opaque) or using media to escape a harsh reality is great material for a film, which is why I enjoyed the first hour with young breh more than the second half. IMO it would have been a better film if the horror/surrealism was toned down and this was more of a slice of life movie about Owen and Maddy's friendship.

also: I didn't know that was Fred Durst playing Owen's Dad. dude a legit actor now

:beli:

Justice been sassy in most movies I've seen him in but that shyt is so unnecessary even in this movie
That's more than a 4, sir.

And just because you watched Buffy in the 90s, it dont make you gay.

Joss Whedon is a misogynist.

This movie had its own agenda.

I had a crush on the chick in this like 10 years ago. Seems like she’s leaning heavily towards greasy nonbinary land. Shame.
She on that Sasha Calle androgynous wave

pretty cute when she dresses femme
