In case of Americans in general it's like
- We fought a revolutionary war against the British.
- The French help us win said war.
- Once the was is over we go back to doing business with the British and in turn start hating the French.
- The French were in Vietnam and felt that it was a lost cause and pulled out.
- They tell us STAY THE fukk OUTTA" THERE at all costs.
- We go in and get our teeth kicked in.
- Now we hate France even more.
- We go into Iraq the First time in 1991.
- They join us and help out.
- We decide to go back in 03'
- They're like "nah.. we don't see the purpose of this new war and you may want to stay away too"
- We go in and realize the sh!t is a bees nest and becomes a torn on our side.
- We ask for other nations to help "shoulder the load" of mess you got ourself into because the cost (in $$ and life) is starting to be a problem for you.
- They (among many other nations) agree to help.
- We still hate them
