To make a long story short, I am a former international student currently in my home country. I got suspended from college 2 years ago due to misconduct (a drinking incident). I was suspended mid semester spring 2011 and told to fly home and receive counseling for alcohol abuse. At the time, I had just begun my Junior year in College and majored in Pol Sci and govt. I went home decided to go for counseling and it turned out I had an anxiety disorder that made me seek alcohol as an escape. I stayed in my home country for two years at the same time exploring a few courses. Now that I want to return to college I have been encouraged by the international student coordinator to choose a "marketable" major like comp sci or statistics. I'm 75% done with University mathematics courses now but since I have 3 semesters worth of scholarships I can use towards a single major, which one would you choose from the 3 since comp sci is just not my cup of tea besides I'm way late for that:

Mathematics+statistics+applied
Chemistry
Pol Sci+minor in economics

What are the Job prospects when comparing these fields

Expect grinding in some lab job if you go Chem. You snowball that shyt into decent paying goverment job inspecting soil/water.... That was,my plan :yeshrug: Expect having to sell yourself well or network hard if you go that poli sci route trust me :to:

I cant really speak for Mafs since its the devil but Im told math majors are like the poli sci of the sciences. Personally i'd stick to science.

so they are all not good? Physical Chemistry seems challenging when I look at the Coursework. There are a very few jobs in that field?

I've been told that math is the first language one has to know before going to the sciences. I don't mean problem solving only, meaning symbols, notation etc. by a college professor. My math knowledge is up to ordinary differential equations but I can't really gauge myself on how much I really know math.

How about Chemistry (analytical or physical or organic and inorganic)?

Well, there are jobs out there, but most are research related.
With that said, you'll want to continue in that path with either a master or PhD degree, or you can get a teaching degree along with your chemistry degree if you want to teach in high school.

Physical is math heavy. If you cant stand Cal II dont bother.

I dropped science altogether before I had to pleasure of experience in/organic chemistry:pachaha:. They crushed so many dreams, destroyed so many gpas... A classmate told me no one got above Cs in some courses. By
"C" I mean 50%:russ:

I can't speak on Analytical Chem

Out of those three, unless you plan on grad school I'd probably go with something like Statistics.

It's pretty hard to get a Chemistry-related job unless you have a masters or higher. And Poli Sci as a major can be hard to sell to employers in general.

Depends. What type of country is your home country and do you plan on going back after graduation...

I can give you a better view based on that.

fukk what you're talking about. You got suspended for drinking. you really don't like any of ur 3 choices. You will either fail, sell out, or be poor with pol sci.

Comp sci - you are not too late.. how when technology is ever changing and chances are you will be ahead of people who have leaned old sh1t?

Also you have these disorders and you drink. You can get some contracts and become a consultant... and maintain all your flaws, get incorporated in your own name and not answer to no one.
Plus you're foreign. People assume foreign comp sci people, especially database developers, or programmers or architects know what they're talking about and are very technical. whether you're African or Indian, or whatever.

Get creative on the side make some mobile apps, hope one does well. My step dad is a Chemist. He's a loser in life and it's really sad. I don't think you should do that.
