it just depends on what exactly you want to play.
being that youre new id say ps3...then get PS+ subscription. that way you have a good sampling of free games to get you started

both consoles are pretty much the same.....its gonna come down to do you want blu ray and free online?........do you want to even play online?......which controller feels best in your hands? I would seriously save your money for the next generation of consoles though especially since it took you this long to cop a ps3 or xbox 360. Both ps and xbox are way overpriced for this stage in the game. I sold my xbox 360 and I've been tempted to get another but I figure I might as well wait it out cause that new shyt is gonna be better.

the better bang for your buck right now would be to get a PS3. because you get more storage, blu-ray, wi-fi, etc., right out of the box, for a very good price.
you get your sports, shooters and Uncharted (ps3/vita).
