I had no idea Saturday Night Fever was such a dark movie...

I had never actually seen the film and assumed it was some goofy 70’s disco movie with catchy music. But I caught it on TV last night and got damn, was not expecting the movie to be so grimey

Travolta’s character is basically a piece of shyt whose only escape from his fukked up life is the club

Travolta and his crew spend the movie beefing with a Puerto Rican gang and end up attacking them after their boy mistakenly claims they jumped him

One of his friends gets his girl pregnant and tries to convince her to get an abortion. When she doesn’t he ends up offing himself by jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge

Travolta tries to get with his dance partner and when she rejects him he tries to rape her. Then at the end he’s like “uhh, my fault. We cool though?” Then they end up being friends like nothing happened.

There’s another girl (the mom from Even Stevens) who wants to be with Travolta but he rejects her. His friends end up gang raping her in the car while Travolta drives and he does nothing to stop it. And when they’re done with her Travolta tells her she asked for it and calls her a c*nt

Apparently they released an R rated and a PG version and the PG version is probably what most people remember. But yeah I went in expecting a disco version of “Step Up” and ended up getting a disco version of “Kids” lol

It's actually a great NYC movie with a killer soundtrack.
his home life where his brother leaves the priesthood and his parents blame him for it.

couple years ago for one of its anniversaries they re-released it in theaters...took ma dukes and pops to it, since it was their shyt...I was also surprised it was dark.

surprised this cancel culture mob hasn't come after it :unimpressed:

yeah there’s absolutely no way the R rated version could be released today. I’ll admit the nonchalant way the movie dealt with rape had me :picard:

About two years ago, I had to watch this movie for a class project. I was just like you, OP, in that I was expecting a completely different movie than the one I watched. shyt was hardcore. :gucci:

If they ever remake this, a lot of people are going to have to explain themselves.
