I got the PS3 yellow light of death, what should i do?

I have the o.g ps3 (80 gig)

They've got a guy down here who fixes yellow light of death for $50

sony will give me a refurbished 160 gig ps3 slim for $129.00 or fix my ps3 for $129.00

whats the best option?

game stop will give $105 trade in credit for the old ps3s

Try to get it fixed locally because if you send it to Sony they will definitely format you HDD from what I read. It'll be a wrap for your game saves and any media stored on it.

I got mines fixed (60GB) locally, backed up all my shyt and retired it. Been eatin' good off the slim ever since

If you got PSN+ you won't have to worry about your game saves, provided you backed up to the server.

If not, have it fixed for cheap (tehre's cheaper places out there than 130 to fix it), but if you go that route, back it up and send it away, as it's not a permanent fix. Or you can take it and trade it into gamestop after the fix and cop a new one for cheap with the credit.

yeah i called em today. 129 and they'd swap mine out for a refurbished 160 gig slim. if i opt to fix mine and they cant repair it they'll give me an og 80 gig refurb.

when this happened to me, I got it fixed for $45 from a dude on craigslist and that lasted about 6 weeks. then it went YLOD again. I had an OG 20GB joint that I got at launch too. my dumb ass didn't even get the game saves off before it YLOD the 2nd time except for 2k12, so I lost everything including the GT 5 save where I was far as hell.

I'd get a slim if I were u tho.

do what you can to get your saves off of it then upgrade to a slim.

I'd say, buy 3 months of PS+, get the REFLOW cheap from somewhere, backup your stuff to a HDD if you want and game saves to PS+, and get a Slim.

I did all that repair stuff and it will just die on you again

From what I understand, it's supposed to be temporary. Mine's is still working though. I used a blowdryer on my vents (OG 40GB that YOD). I just did it for 15 minutes left to right. Then I put it in front of a fan for about 20. It came on and stayed on. Like I said, I don't believe it's supposed to be permanent though so if I was you and I got it working I'd try to sell it afterward

I don't use it much anymore since I have a Slim but it's just something to consider. You can at least get your saves and shyt off of it and any disc that may be still inside.

The thing is, Gametop won't know that it's been opened or that it's a YLOD system buddy. I know they didn't when I did it. Long as it powers up when they test it, you good.
