I felt a little sad at the way the younger sister was being forced around by her idiot brother, but his stubborn pride and selfishness didn't settle in. And I'm not sure if I angry at the Aunt....I mean I would understand if she's angry at Seita but she doesn't have to go bytch about it on a cute little girl Setsuko....Seita chose not to swallow his pride to live with his aunt which could have allowed him to live on beyond the war. The aunt might have seemed cruel to him and Setsuko, but she was living her own stressful times in making sure there was still food for everyone living with her to eat. She especially grew concerned when Seita and Setsuko finally decide to leave her.

Got a love/hate relationship with this flick. I'd love to see a live action version... don't even gotta be about WW2 Japan.

1: Why did Seta choose to leave his Aunt's house? Sure, she was a pill, but he could have gone to work or school, goten her to agree to watch Setsuko. It wouldn't have been a happy situation but at least it would have been sustainable

2: Why didn't he try to get a job? They mentioned that he had worked in a mill, but after it gets destroyed in the war, they never show him trying to find work.

yeah a :mjcry: film but I have similar problems as the OP

you wanna strike out on your own? fine but if you got someone your responsible for and things are looking bleak and you have somewhere to go back to...you need to swallow your pride cus it's not just about you:francis:

and then he was so distraught that he just gave up.

I've been meaning to watch this for years and haven't been able to bring myself to do it. This and Dear Zachary are two movies that I'm scared to watch because everyone I know who's seen it has sad it brought them to tears.
