McGregor Warns That Mayweather Could Be Buried For His Talk
By Edward Chaykovsky
During the press conference to announce his upcoming defense of the UFC lightweight title, champion Conor McGregor was hit with questions regarding the war of words with retired pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. McGregor returns on March 5th against Rafael dos Anjos.
The verbal battle first began when Mayweather conducted an interview and expressed his opinions on what he believes to be an ongoing trend of racism against black fighters in combat sports.
Mayweather specifically used McGregor as an example of how white fighters are less criticized for their antics.
"They say he talks a lot of trash, and people praise him for it. But when I did it, they say I am cocky and arrogant. So biased. I ain’t racist at all, but I’m telling you racism still exists," Mayweather told Fighthype.com
McGregor fired back on the social networks and offered Mayweather an 80-20 split to settle their differences in the ring. The very popular MMA fighter took the opportunity to discuss the subject again when reporters at the kickoff presser, which took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, began to ask him Mayweather related questions.
"I didn’t appreciate [what Mayweather said] one bit. There’s people buried in the desert for less than that. Floyd needs to understand before he speaks who he is speaking about, and that is that," McGregor said.
“I think Floyd needs to learn before he opens his mouth. You don’t put a man like me in a situation like that. You are putting me in a name that has got to do with prejudice when you don’t know nothing about me. I am a product of many cultures as a young Irish man. I know he wasn’t saying I am (racist), but he was putting me in that bracket.”
