Look at Egypt. It's sad to say, but some people just need heavy handed leadership. The same policies aren't applicable to everywhere. Would you open a VW dealership with 24 month lease options with no down payment in the hood? No, you'd probably open a Buy Here Pay Here dealership with verified monthly income. It's the same deal with government, some cultures are not build for pure democracy.

Syrian conflict isn't complex but very simple. Only regimes that have heavy gov't support are targeted by the U.S. with arming small opposition group or groups, bringing in troops from Qatar, etc. All the other Regime Changes had no population influence such as Tunisia, Egypt and Yemen. Those gov't are extremely corrupt and on U.S. pay roll. Syria isn't any of these countries.
