I chose 30fps with better graphics over 60fps with worse gfx today.

So I decided to fire up Far Cry 4 on the PC since I haven't played it in a minute and while playing it I decided to just lock the fps to 30fps and increase the graphics since having the graphics preset on high/very high/ultra with the framerate unlocked gave me fluctuating performance.

I then tried the opposite and lowered the graphics to get something like 50-60fps but these graphics on low is :gag:. Hell no I would not play the game looking like this.

30fps/ultra

Yeah, I'm not a straight 60fps guy. I aim for 45fps and ultra myself. 30 is a little low, but I'll deal with it if it's stable.

I know, I know I said graphics don't matter, but they do help with immersion (and you make sacrifices when you play on 3 monitors)

60 fps and ultra is obviously the best though. That's not always possible at ultra high resolutions.

I prefer a framerate that matches my refresh rate. if I can't get that, I'll use adaptive vsync or triple-buffering

but 30fps gets the bozak :camby:
This games framerates tanks when I start driving in the wild. It'll be like 50, 45, 39, 30, 29, 40, 34... which looks jarring. A buttery smooth 30fps is much better imo.

30fps is a slide-show :skip:

in those situations, I would try to find settings to get the framerate up a little. both dips to 30, and locked at 30, aren't desirable to me

...unless I'm playing Arma :guilty:
First time I saw this comment I bust out laughing. :wow: The eliteness in that comment was just something else. :laff:

I can't really get a consistent framerate on that game. I'd say though that this is with a dual core pentium G3258. When I ran the game on my 4690K, it ran at a silk the shocker smooth 60fps.

Ive been at 60 fps for over 10 years. 30 fps makes my eyes hurt and makes me mad im playing at 30 fps
Locked thirty is fine. It's only jarring when you can switch between that two right away like in the last of us. 30fps only games are perfectly fine.

Movies are less then 30 frames per second.
24fps

but film has natural motion blur. if you were to look at a single frame, it might look like this

when those blurred frames are shown at 24 frames per second, it creates a smooth motion. but video games render each frame perfectly, with no blur, so motion at 24fps is going to look much more choppy
