If I update my firmware with iTunes it will fukk up my touch right? So where do I do to do it?

I'm so far behind on updates....I haven't gotten an update for my iPod touch since I got it in January of 2010.

Help a nikka out brehs. I can't even download 99% of all apps out right now because it always tell me I need to update my shyt lol.

I open up Installous to look for new Apps and it takes me to a page that says "404 Not Found"

I need big help brehs Thanks.

EDIT: And if anyone needs to know, I'm on version 3.1.2

The best option is to update it to a newer version (not the latest) by downloading it and manually selecting in iTunes the update file you previously downloaded and after jailbreak it again it with redsn0w. Not sure if its working with the latest iTunes but its worth a try

Also another option is

use AptBackup from Cydia. That will backup your Cydia apps and stuff.

Then your backup your iPod regularly from iTunes, update to new firmware (make sure that firmware can be jailbroken) , re-jailbreak, download AptBackup from Cydia, and that should restore all your JB stuff.

I'm not 100% sure on this, as I've never had to do this, but consider following some video tutorials on YouTube. I'm sure they have those kinds of videos.
