I have the verizon galaxy nexus. Its hell. You dont want the nexus4 to be on any major network.

I have the galaxy nexus and its painful. Battery drain like crazy and slow updates kills it for me. Im always on WI-FI

I have AT&T and I get about 6-8mbps on HSPA+

Since they dropped LTE in Southern Cal late last year I've gotten anywhere from 20-55mbps

As for CDMA, then you have to deal with carriers that won't allow you to bring just any device onto their networks. Verizon has to certify and approve any phone on its network - 700MHz block C "open access" provisions be damned, because Verizon's CDMA network basically nullifies those requirements. Sprint is the same. That then means these carriers don't want you selling the hardware strings-free. They want to sell it with a contractual commitment. Then there's the cost of carrier certification, and going through the carrier software update approval regime. And that's if Verizon even wants a Nexus phone after its numerous PR boondoggles with the poor-selling Galaxy Nexus.

Yep AT&T LTE in portland is pretty damn fast, way faster than my work and home internet

so its cost $299 + HSPA+ speed+ speedy updates vs $199 on a 2 yr contract+ slow updates+ blocked google wallet+ battery drain+ capped data+ LTE

Unless I'm mistaken Sprint is the only one who offers unlimited data and doesn't cap. So while I agree buying a phone outright is the way to go, you're most likely going to still get capped.

Last I checked they had a cap. If true I might have to switch to them.
