Download ps3 media server onto your computer.

Enable media server connection on the ps3.

either that or download mkv2vob. that will change an mkv to an mpg file. ps3 can play all mpg files unless its a movie that has cinavia protection. if that happens, it will mute the movie like 15 minutes in. however, this NEVER happens for TV shows tho.

ps3 only recognizes fat32 format .. sounds like your external hd is nts formated..

i used swissknfe on 1 of my externals and created a fat32 and a nts partition..

other than that your choices are ps3 media player, convert the file or burn a data dvd with your avi files ...

mkv you sol without converting ..

The USB stick works... You have to press TRIANGLE and DISPLAY ALL.

1) USB Stick has to be in FAT32 format
2) You have to make specific folders on the drive that sync up with the menu. They have to be labeled AUDIO, PHOTO, and VIDEO for you to see your files. Technically you'd only have to make a VIDEO folder to do what you're trying to do.


The Cinavia sh*t is kind of a crapshoot though. I've gotten 15 minutes into some ish before only to get that from cinavia.

Cinavia is only on certain movies. especially anything that comes from sony studios like men in black III or spiderman. other shyt with cinavia I have seen recently has been 21 jump street, looper, green hornet, and project x

whenever I get a from cinavia, I just hook it up with laptop via HDMI directly to the tv.
