Ive never witnessed a dead HDD in my life. :wow:

This shyt never happened to me. :wow:

But I keep reading everywhere how nikkas loose their lifetime achievements in one day due to HDD malfunction. :wow:

So are nikkas just unlucky or is this shyt really fragile?

Nah they're not fragile at all. I've lost probably 2 HDDs in 19 years of computing.

Never to me personally, a couple friends had some die on them though...

Currently I keep all my music in Google Music, all videos on one htpc with an external hard drive backing it up and plex to serve them so I can watch it anywhere, and lastly I never save anything to the harddrive itself and save all personal files to Google Drive(used dropbox for years before that)

Yes, I've had a decent number, probably 4 hard drives fail in my life on me.

For you guys that do a lot of downloading.

Do you download your stuff straight to externals or do you always put em on your PC first and then transfer stuff when you need the space?

I'm going to cop the 3TB external at BB on BF for 99, was just curious how the download gang usually manages their stuff.

I always save it to the PC hard drive then move it to the external.

I've had a Seagate HD (which is supposed to be a terrible brand) for over 3 years now.. I dropped it once.. and it was doing the clicking noise at one point but it still works.
I still have most of my shyt backed up just in case though.

My Apple Aiport Extreme just took a shyt on me, it was 5 years old. 225 GB of music gone.

But I run two back-ups, anyway. I'll end up copping another primary external, probably 1 TB.

I go computer and then external and then back-ups. The bulk of my music was ripped from my CD collection, and I have that on two back-ups away from the primary that just took a shyt.

external hard drives become unreliable when you move them around different locations, always have a duplicate backup of your primary and you're good.

Is mine dead? The light comes on when connected to the computer but it doesn't show up anywhere to access it...
