a calorie deficit diet is more important when cutting. figure out your maintenance calorie intake then subtract 300-500 and you'll be good.

personally, i do cardio in every workout session. i jump rope for 10 minutes then do cardio on the treadmill for 1 mile (speed at 8). on my cardio day, i run 4 miles on the treadmill with the speed at 7 and then do over hand pull ups, dips and abs then chill in the suana for about 25 minutes.

It's up to you. It's a sliding scale and is dependent on how much fat you have, how much you want to lose and various other factors.

The sliding scale is between calorie intake and cardio with maintenance as the pivot. If you do 1600 calories you won't need to do any cardio I'm guessing. If you do 2,500 i'm guessing you would need to do a lot. So just do more of what you prefer. Me? I like running/skipping and cardio in general. But I don't really have time like that. So I do about 10 minutes 5 times a week. Then a half hour session on the weekend. So my calorie intake is still very important but the cardio buys me some breathing space.

I read online do no cardio, then I ask people at my gym do like 35-40 mins
So I am kinda lost

I am trying to cut weight, I'm on a low carb diet right now

Don't go crazy with the cardio or better yet don't do it fullstop?! don't get me wrong I ain't got a problem with cardio, just personally I think it's wasted time. For those that enjoy cardio then this is time well spent....everyone has their own preferences, live and let live. Let’s not pretend though that most people aren’t solely doing cardio because they wish to lose fat:yeshrug:

My £0.02 - So yea as someone pointed out already...Dial down your DIET ( Total control over yourr Macro/Kcal intake) & you can spare yourself some valuable time (& have expendable energy) shying away from being strapped to a treadmill & cross trainers etc.

I'm also cutting weight at the moment & all I do is:
  • Three 50 minute sessions a week with weights.
  • No morning running, no countless hours wasted on a treadmill.
  • The only change I made was what I put in my mouth, and when.
Everybody knows the rule for weight loss – Consume less calories than you need for the day and your body will use fat stores for energy.

You need to be in a calorie deficit - Two options are available to create this calorie deficit:

1.Move more (Cardio)
2 Eat less (Diet)

I think most people understand this too, however I think the problem lies with the overestimation of the effect of 1 and underestimating the effects of 2.

The key to diet success is having set portion sizes. Do not eat according to your hunger. As we have seen from the above examples, you cannot out-run your mouth. The mouth will win every time. I very rarely use cardio (if ever if you want to include recreational ball sports) & if done right it all comes down to simple barbell training & a diet focused attitude.

The way you lift can be a source of cardio as well. Supersets can be used to create a 30 min routine that hits the right body parts, keeps your heart rate up and make you :dead:
Cutting the time in between sets can boost heart rate also.

You can lose weight by changing your diet, diet matters. I am starting to do calisthenics and low weights on what I use to consider cardio days.

If you like cardio - do cardio. It can help you be more flexible in your diet (as long as the effect on your appetitie isn't great).
