Interesting. Always got the impression that dudes who got into hip hop artistry did so because they are creative types without formal music instruction.

I don't think they really left Hip Hop but The Beastie Boys The Mix-Up album was all live instruments

Godfather Don "retired" from Hip Hop for a minute and went off to start a jazz band.

He was doing a lot of live gigs in NYC for awhile. All live instrumentation.

Damn, I don’t know what happened to A Kid Called Roots. That's a name I haven't heard in years!

Mike Heron has been doing the executive thing at Shady for a minute. And he was managing a lot of artists, last I heard.
