It's obvious from the current booking that he is still being protected. Hasn't been pinned outside of the Brad Maddox interference and is still going over other priority projects such as Cesaro.
We'll find out a lot over the next month. He won't beat Punk for the title but it'll be interesting how they book that... and he's still my prediction for Royal Rumble winner.
I could see him facing Show at Mania and winning the title.
He has the next say.. 3 months to get over as a top star. They'll give him that opportunity. If come May he is not receiving the kind of reactions they want.. his push will slow down and he'll fall into a Kane type of role. Comedy segments mixed in with some ass-kicking but also putting others over..

As, we already seen him smile and be convincing say yep, yep, whut it do.
plus this week on raw,...
He did a partly comedic promo with punk that worked.
That link played off of and made even more enjoyable on crutches.
You dudes just crap on ryback for no reason at all.
He can and could always talk.
He just needed a gimmick.
like what ryback is, allowed rightfully so to do, to draw.
Ryback is one of the few things they have done exactly right in the history of this company similar to Brock.
