I remember watching this in probably 1997 or so, I was 12, and at the time was obsessed with the Secret Service, I watched 'In The Line of Fire' all the time, so I rented this at Blockbuster.
Of course it's a well made, produced, movie that often looks and sounds great, esp. Whitney's singing and the iconic ending sequence, (to keep it honest) but as a thriller and a love story, it is insultingly bad. I happened to catch 30 minutes or so on VH1 the other night, and was reminded of not only how hollow and lacking in chemistry the Whitney/Frank Farmer was, but the seemingly nonsensical plot twists propelling the action.
So, Whitneys sister, in a fit of jealousy and rage, as a socialite in Beverley Hills hires a hit man, whom she never meets in person, who is the most professional and reliable guy in the business apparently, and after multiple attempts, doesn't just skate with the money? DId Costner, as an ex secret service really think jeopardizing his family was a great move? Or, did the hit man really think the bomb in the boat was a stroke of genius? Why not just shoot Whitney when she walked out in the morning? He had the place staked out. Well, he screws that up, and his next move is to kill her in front of 1000's of people at a security filled event? I'm not even really sure how Costner managed to save her, and gun him down, he was that slow to leave the building?
