I don't remember watching much of Joe's fights.....I know that many consider him to be the de facto greatest super middlerweight of all time, even though I thought many consider his resume to be rather not that great, or at least that's what i remember reading about.

How good was he, legacy wise? and also his fighting ability?

He’s the only guy to beat both Roy and Hopkins, right?

yeah but both were past prime
To be fair Joe was at the end of his run by then too. It’s not like he’s much younger than Roy, and Bernard went on to literally son Pavlik and beat the Canadian kid (name escapes me, Pascal?) right after this.

I used to question Calzaghe but honestly the way he beat the shyt out of Jeff Lacy when Lacy was legit looking scary let me know Calzaghe was the real deal. I don’t think he beats Roy earlier in their careers (no one does), but I do think he could still have beaten a younger Hopkins.

Despite retiring undefeated he’s obviously not seen at the level of those two, nor is he really talked about much at all. But some of that has to do with his not being American and not necessarily being in front of the camera so much after his career, though you’ll still see him at fights. It may not be a popular comp but I kinda feel like Andre Ward would kinda be low key forgotten in the same way if he didn’t get into announcing (not even a diss either, Ward is my second favorite fighter ever after Zab).

This guy admitted that he waited for RJJ to completely fall from his prime :pacspit:

The same thing can be said about Hopkins basically before Roy was faded by the weight drop, they both would call out Roy but never had any intentions of fighting at that time. Once RJJ looked vulnerable then they were quick to fight him.

Truth. After Roy's close decision win against Tarver, there was an article where Joe C said Roy finally "looked human" and had the "confidence he could beat him" lol. He knows he would've gotten destroyed within 6 if Roy was anywhere near his prime form

True

But at least Hopkins fought RJJ when they were younger. Joe on the other hand is a clown and I'm glad people don't really show him respect
