How far away are we from a handheld emulating a PS2 ?

I wish the Vita had PS2 downloads but its probably not able because isnt PS2 emulation difficult ? Will we have this any time in the next 5 years ?

PS2 emulation is perfect on a capable gaming PC. Most of the piff on ps2 won't translate well to a handheld screen anyway. I couldn't imagine playing games like sotc or mgs3 on a handheld

you need some kind of 'open source' handheld

it probably won't happen until cell phones reach the tech level of present day desktops in terms of power. the handheld gaming market will eventually be cannibalized by the mobile app market.

It'll happen when handheld are able to perfectly emulate the emotion engine, which was pretty much the 2000 version of the infamous Cell broadband engine. It says a lot that 13 years later, emulation of the EE is still tricky to achieve on a PC (though much better now than it was then). I just wonder how long it'll take for Cell emulation.
