I'm going through this now. best way for me to get out is listen to music then try to recreate something dope.

The process or trying to recreate an existing beat is a good warmup. other than that, I will watch tutorials on something new technique i have never tried.

I call mine 'Production Paralysis'

I Just have a week or so break from it and do something completely different with my spare time. I find then I miss making a beat and go in with more drive to come up with something.

I think what really hurts me a lot is being caught in between make shyt I think sounds dope and trying to make stuff the local artist would poetentially buy. I can make a bunch of dope melodic animeb/game sample tracks. but shyt like that aint hot right now.

also another thing I try is go to whosampled and troll through the archives, but I get too caught up in what the original sounds like I subconsciously try to recreate :( and that shyt is wack. I think I'm just going to finish this squaresoft tape and hopefully at the end I can start just doing other shyt again. might bust out the mpc I haven't touched in months to brainstorm. if only it wasn't so shytting fl studio :aicmon:

I usually take a break and listen to other types of music to gather ideas on how I wanna flip the sample. Either that or I try to build from my drums and then on up. For me when I have established a good drum pattern everything else seems to follow.

It always helps to listen to different genres of music. If you are not on a deadline to get a particular project done, one thing I recommend is taking a break from production all together, like a few days or so. You will find that you will go back to it hungrier then ever. If you really must produce, then try doing something completely different then what you usually do. Try making beats from scratch just to make them from scratch etc. Producers who compose all the time I tell them to try sampling. Another thing with sampling as you know, you can make a hip hop beat with any genre of music, try sampling some different material. Whatever you chose to do don't force anything, you will find that will get you deeper and deeper into a block.

I hope this helps

Don't Believe the Hype
When it comes to beat-block, the thing I do is create some off-the-wall beat. Maybe try creating a beat in some strange scale or no scale at all (pentatonic, atonal) or mode (Locrian or Dorian)

You might not ever listen to the beat again but it cleans the proverbial pipes. This generally works for me.

Good luck!

Tryna flip the intro on Will To Power's "Baby I Love Your Way", and im stumped the fukk out. Maybe because the shyt is so easy to flip, I want it to sound "different" and it's forcin me to overthink the shyt instead of doin what I "feel"
