You've got an American company that was bailed out by the American people and in return turned a blind eye to a defect that killed the same people and only admitted there was an issue after their company was able to rebound.

my friend has a Saturn Ion. I dont know what he's doing about it though.

and yeah it is bullshyt. This CEO coming out now, "well we had a culture much more concerned about cost back then." basically absolving herself even though she was a high ranking employee there at the time.

That's what you get for driving a GM car. Years ago I drove a GM car, never have I driven such a cheaply put together car, such a piece of shyt. I would never drive a GM car again.

GM has made shyt products for a long-time. There is a reason why they were going bankrupt. Their cars were of low quality, and they were total unreliable.

My parents used to only buy GM until the engine fell out their Blazer while driving on the highway. they then switched to Honda and never came back.

Who the hell wants to drive a Caddy? Or an SUV? Or a Chevy period? Nobody. California is probably the most important market, and I don't see anyone driving GM or Ford for the matter. I do see plenty of BMWs, C-classes , teslas, Scion FRSs, Cammry's, Accords', Nissan Z's, G37's , Mini coopers and Audis. GM really has nothing that can compete with those cars.

Not really shocked by the story. If they get sued in a class-action lawsuit that crushes their profits, they got what they deserve.
I, of course, would not buy an American car so I couldn't eat off that class-action lawsuit.
My parents have had GM, Ford and Jeep vehicles. All had problems in one form or another. They switched to Japanese cars and never turned back.

Yeah, I felt like I was in the twilight zone watching her talk.

I think that GM denying it and knowing Congress won't push the issue makes it that much worse.

I feel like American companies that employ a large number of people should be protected. Looking at their histories of outsourcing and in this case pushing a fatal product ...

The whole thing is exaggerated. The new CEO wants to be pro-active and is recalling old cars for small issues. Those of you that are biased from American cars are foolish; EVERY manufacturer has issues here and there. EVERY manufacturer might learn of a design defect on an older car and not acknowledge it unless it becomes a large issue.

I don't think it's exaggerated at all. It was known defect that killed people. That's not a small issue in this case. It effected a large amount of vehicles and lead to deaths.

I just repaired my car a few days ago because of a defect that hasn't had a recall issued on it. Should there be a recall? Yes. Am I angry, hell yeah. At the same time it wasn't an issue that could of lead to my death as far as I'm concerned. I'll be the first to say no manufacture is immune. It's how they handle the issue that matters. GM swept this under the rug for what ten years while it was killing the vary people who paid for them to carry on operations.

It's unethical, immoral, and illegal.
