My pops was a bass, drum player back in the 70's. When i was younger I've been having this argument with him, that hip-hop is NOT stealing music (he thinks it is). :yeshrug: I failed horribly the first few times trying to convince him cuz his music theory knowledge was much stronger than mines. How do ya'll convice non hip-hop heads that sampling is not stealing?...I'm a big Young Guru fan and this is the method in which i approach people with. What's yours?

hmm never really argue with ppl over this because most my friends understand pretty well...my mom doesnt seem to care...every once in a while she'll be like "oh your grandma loved this song..." (not realizing its just a sample at first) and have me like :guccihuh:

i would say its like using sound clips of other songs as an instrument like a country singer might use a guitar..this shows when you have ppl flip the same sample multiple/different ways and have a completely different sound for a song..its really just taking a sound and manipulating it to the way you like best then maybe adding your own drums to it :yeshrug: if they cant grasp that concept then fukk em lol

I just just say you can borrow and you can change sounds easily. sampling is an art because you could get 3 people to sample the same 4 minute soul song and theirs a high chance they would sound different
