How do y’all have the energy to talk to your co-workers at a holiday party?

Idk how y’all do it. Just left my holiday party. I honestly don’t know how to talk to people I don’t want to talk too.

This networking shyt is wild lol. Talking to people who don’t even want to talk to me, plus they already doubting me cause I’m black. shyt is draining. I got a black colleague who talks, but he seems very “safe” and has the energy to speak with them. I just don’t know how to do it.

Perhaps don't go into it with that mindset.

You're going into a social environment with a whole lot of negative energy. You're probably giving off a vibe that has folks steering well clear of you.

For your own sake, learn to mingle. Express genuine interest, and ask them questions about projects they're working on, kids, ambitions, etc then share your thoughts on those same subjects. Each person you connect with is a potential ally in that work place. Opportunities are more often than not handed to folks that are well liked. So put in more effort to be more sociable.

Exactly. Also learn how to nicely exit a conversation. That way, you don’t have to get caught up in a long back forth. Then, the next time you see the person, ask them about 1 thing they mentioned in the last conversation. Don’t tell anything about yourself; let them do all the talking.
